I'm a big knife knut, so I was wondering what people with good taste carry for blades. I usually have a Carson small titanium M16 w/ Stellite blade, Darrel Ralph medium Apogee and a Spyderco Starmate plain edge on me (gee, do ya think I NEED to carry a P32) :)

With an evil grin - I never bring a knife to a gun fight. I bring three knives and two guns to a gun fight. ;)

Actually, if I knew I was going to be in a gunfight I'd turn around and go the other way at an accelerated pace :)

SAMTU,

Nice knife. Green handles with plain blade? The Axis lock is a terrific design. I wonder if Kel-Tec could start matching the colors of these knives on their handles and selling them as boxed sets. Maybe throw in a Sure Fire E1 anodized in the same color. They could pre-wrap them and sell them at department store counters during the holidys :) Ah, wishful thinking.

Take care,
Chris

Ah, my favorite Zytel handled Spyderco. Nice choice. Have you mastered the Spyderco drop with it? It's tough to do with the lighter Zytel knives, but gives a nice SNAP!

Hey I just had an idea (alert the press). I know many people "into" guns carry knives. Spyderco will laser etch designs on their blades for a nominal fee. They also produce limited knives at the request of groups such as ours (different handle material/color than standard, different blade steel, etc.). Would anyone be interested in an "official" KTOG knife (assuming the board owners approve)? I'm a member of BladeForums www.bladeforums.com and they have a unique knife made up for their "club" every year. I'm not an employee of Spyderco or trying to make a schpeel, but think this would be a cool idea. If we get enough interest I'd be happy to contact Sal Glesser (Spyderco owner/CEO) to see if he'd do it.

Later,
Chris

scromer,

I just noticed that you're from Greenville. I'm up in Greensboro. Ever make it to the Charlotte gun/knife/jerky shows at the Metrolina? A bunch of us knife/gun knuts usually attend the shows and have a great lunch at Bubba's BBQ.

I carry a SpyderCard. If I had known Spyderco did laser engraving, I would have had my name put on it.

K-TFNG...Yup, and scary sharp. Best steel on the commercial market. It doesn't scare folks as long as I open it s l o w l y and with two hands, but at the same time, makes a fine light tactical blade.

WP5,

I know they laser etch quantity limited editions with the group's designs, but I'm not sure about individual pieces. You may want to email them at: contactus@spyderco.com to see if they do individual pieces.

SAMTU,

Tell me about it! ATS-55 is definitely up there with the best. The sheeple have gotten used to me at work (that or they're just really scared) ;) I'm a flick-a-holic and constantly open and close my folders at my desk :) Do you have one of the newer Delica's with the improved clip recess/lock (Boye indent)?

Webfoot,

Another Delica fan! Looks like you're in good company. Have you compared your CQC-7 with the Emerson version? I think you have the better (and rarer) knife.

Slugger,

Another Delica man! I think I know which knife everyone will choose if the KTOG/Spyderco thing materializes! The AFCK and CQC-7 are my two fave original Benchmades. They are THE original production tactical liner locks and still a couple of the best IMHO. I think Benchmade is coming out with an AFCK with the Axis lock. That'll be cool. Have you seen the new oblong opening holes they're making the newer ones with? Don't know if I like it yet. :)

Matt,

Great choices! I think the 940 is becoming another BM classic. Smooth opener. Microtech. What more can I say? What version do you have? Clip/tanto bead blast/TiCN blade? I just picked up a D/A LCC with a plain edge and the newer Ti coating. Pretty cool.

Thanks for all the responses. BTW, how do you guys carry your knives? I'm used to carrying mine in my right front pocket, but that is where the 32 needs to go, so I guess I need to improvise. Maybe a P32/knife pocket holster?

TTYL,
Chris

K-TFNG

Chris,

I've never been to a show in Charlotte but it sounds like fun. When is the next one? Usually the summer shows here in Greenville are not very good.

I would definitely be interested in a KTOG Delica. I accidently broke the tip off of my Delica blade, do you think Syderco will replace it?

Stephen,

Sorry to hear about your tip. You may want to call their customer service dept. (and tell them you're a member of BladeForums (after you join BF, that is ;) ). They usually are pretty good about fixing things. If they don't replace the knife, I'm sure they'll re-grind the tip for you. Let me know how it turns out!

I carry a Buck Odyssey with the 420HC chromed steel non-serrated blade. No offense, but I absolutely hate serrated blades. It is slim, has a pocket clip, opens easily, and the blade has no wobble it it. The lock is simple and secure, easy to manipulate. It CAN pop shut with a sharp rap against a hard surface with the back of the blade, but I don't use my knife like that.

I like my Spydercos for everyday carry.

When I'm working hard or chance breaking or loosing my knife - an old Endura is the one I enjoy.

Normal, everyday carry is a Wenger 50/50 ATS 34 blade with G-10 scales.

I carry a Chris Reeve "Small Sebenza".
The titanium handles match my hard chrome P-32. Hey! I've got this little "color scheme" going here!

K-TFNG,

CRKT Urban Shark with combo blade or CRKT Small Mirage with plain edge blade.

I have a Benchmade and a SOG Pup, but as much of my daily knife useage is cuttin' open heavy cardboard boxes, and I tend to lose about two knifes a year, I carry the cost effective ones.

My hot setup is the Benchmade 705BT in the upper right corner of my right rear pocket and the Microtech LCC Lightfoot clipped or sheathed in the front usually a little off to the right. Sometimes it's fastened horizontally (in it's nylon sheath) to a thin belt.

I don't blame you guys one bit. I always carry a "user" knife as well as a larger one that stays scary sharp for more personal matters :) I used to be a one knife guy, but I've been bitten by the bug and can't seem to stop buying them! They get jealous and I have to rotate them regularly. Today I've got a well worn custom Terzuola Ti ATCF (big user), Microtech SOCOM Elite (P32 backup), and a Benchmade Crawford Leopard Cub as my (sheeple) user.

For those that are contemplating a new knife purchase:

I just bought a Benchmade mini-AFCK (812S, I think) from Bayou Lafourche for $52! They are selling Benchamde's discontinued items below cost. This is a great deal for this knife. They've got a couple left, as well as some 800's. These are the ones with the Spyderco hole, not the newer ugly (IMHO) oval hole.

BTW, anyone else use Sentry Solution's Marine Tough Cloth on their P32? I've had mixed results with it on knives (my sweat is like acid when mixed with steel :( ), but it seems to work well one the exposed part of the slide of the P32. Are there better protectants out there?

Chris

Knife guys,
Just a heads up, but Smokey Mountain Knife Works is closing out their CRKT "Mirage" line of knifes. I just ordered a large plain bladed Mirage for $9.99 plus S&H. They had been about $37.00 each for the last couple of years at stores here in Memphis...
