My P-32's never empty. It's either loaded with Gold Dots or snap caps (when in the safe or when dryfiring). So it's always cocked. ------------------ |

Manual says to avoid dryfiring.....given the modified double-action design I don't think it hurts to leave it "cocked". ------------------ |

I do not have a P-32 but I do have a P-11 9mm and would assume the firing mechanism is the same. Since this is a DAO system there is no such thing as cocked or uncocked. Regardless of whether a round is chanbered, the chamber is empty, or has a snap cap in it, the hammer is always in a forward dormant position waiting for you to pull the double action trigger. Am I wrong? ------------------ |

The gun is never actually cocked. The hammer is brought back under it's spring tension while the trigger is pulled. The hammer spring is under minimal tension when the gun is at rest. The hammer is in what amounts to a half cocked position. This small amount of tension would, IMHO, have little effect on the spring's lifespan. Consider this, if the gun had second strike capability, there would be no way to release the at rest hammer spring tension. Rick [This message has been edited by Rick (edited October 02, 2000).] |
